I wanted to work with reds and greens. I happen to be red-green colour-blind. I see both colours mind you, but red inside green does not stand out to me as vividly as other contrasts. It means that I might walk right past a flowering tree that would have stopped my partner in her tracks; and only after she points it out to me do I suddenly see the wonder I would have missed.
In this painting I wanted to study the shades and contrasts between shades of red and green. I chose to do so while engaged in a most pleasant image of a field of poppies.
